Rationale
Our starting point, as always, is our school vision:
All young people have the right to a transformational educational experience that will enable them, no matter what their starting point, to fulfil their potential and realise their ambitions.
We believe that in order to meet the complex demands of our rapidly changing world, the educational experience we deliver to our young people needs to go beyond the formal curricular areas and the pursuit of academic attainment. Our young people need a broad and diverse range of skills in order to navigate through the world that awaits them. We aim to develop the four capacities, so that the pupils of Lornshill Academy are successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. In order to develop these capacities, we will shape our curricular experience across the four contexts of learning:
- Curriculum areas and subjects;
- Ethos and life of the school as a community;
- Personal achievement;
- Interdisciplinary learning.
Finally, and crucially, the foundation of our curricular experience will be our school values: respect; integrity; compassion; engagement; ethics; inclusion. By threading our school values and the development of skills across the four contexts of learning, we aim to help your children develop into world class young people ready to take their place in the world.
Curriculum Model
Our curriculum model is designed to ensure we can deliver all pupil entitlements within the resources and time available. This will always be subject to change as we strive to be flexible to meet the demands and needs of the year groups as and when they progress through the school.
Our curriculum model delivers the framework for all pupils to receive their curriculum entitlement and to support raising attainment and achievement levels.
Curriculum Pathways
Each pupil will follow their own curriculum pathway within the framework. Courses, levels and pathways are determined by pupils interests, learning progression and future destinations.
Subject pathways can be found in the curricular pages showing how pupils can progress and the requirements for accessing specific subject courses.
All pupil pathways are planned and discussed at key stages with both pupils and their parents or carers.
